Locating presumed victims of trafficking in prostitution

Presumed victims of human trafficking in prostitution in The Netherlands are reported by various organisations as well as the Dutch police and the Dutch Royal Marechaussee. The police is responsible for the majority of the reports on presumed victims. In the past five years the police is responsible for more than 62% of the reported presumed victims in prostitution.

From more than 60% of these reported presumed victims it is not reported or unknown what type of prostitution it was. The largest group of presumed victims in prostitution of whom it is known what type of prostitution it was, is home prostitution, which is often an illegal form of prostitution in The Netherlands.

Most reports of presumed victims in The Netherlands in prostitution come from the area of Rotterdam, according to statistics from the past five years. Other areas with large groups of presumed victims are Oost-Brabant and The Hague (Den Haag). Remarkable is the fact that Amsterdam scores average compared to other areas in The Netherlands, despite the fact that the city itself estimates the total amount of prostitutes to be more than 25% of the entire prostitution industry. The amount of presumed victims in the past five years are only 8% of the total amount of presumed victims in prostitution in The Netherlands.

Some regions report better on presumed victims of human trafficking in prostitution than others. For example Oost-Brabant as a very large number of presumed victims over the past five years, but in more than 80% of the cases it's not reported what type of prostitution. While other regions, such as The Hague (Den Haag) for example reports most on the type of prostitution, but this is due to the fact that most of their reports are about window prostitution, and their reports on window prostitution are higher than anywhere else in the country. Interestingly enough Amsterdam reports only two window prostitutes as presumed victims in the past five years.
