The presumed victims of trafficking in prostitution

The majority of presumed victims of trafficking in prostitution in The Netherlands are adult females, who represent over three-quarter of the reports according to the latest statistics from 2015. Females under 18 are reported as minors and represent the second largest group. In total females represent more than 96% of all the presumed victims in prostitution in The Netherlands.

Looking at statistics from the past five years, the largest group of presumed victims of human trafficking in in prostitution The Netherlands are Dutch, which represent almost a third of all presumed victims in prostitution. From the non-Dutch group most of the presumed victims come from Eastern Europe, countries such as Romania, Bulgaria en Hungary.

From more than 60% of the reported presumed victims of human trafficking in prostitution in The Netherlands from the past five years it's unknown what kind of prostitution work they where doing. From the remaining reported presumed victims the largest group are prostitutes who work in home prostitution. Most of these presumed victims are of African descent.

In second place comes window prostitution, of which the majority are presumed victims from other EU countries, mostly these consist out of Romanian, Bulgarian and Hungarian presumed victims. The same thing applies to the third group working in sexclubs and private houses, where also most of the presumed victims are from other EU countries. In the escort industry however most presumed victims of trafficking are Dutch.

Looking at which region in The Netherlands the different nationalities of presumed victims from the past five years come from, we can see that the biggest group which is reported from Rotterdam, are Dutch presumed victims. In Rotterdam most of the victims are reported in home prostitution, which seems to indicate that most of these reported presumed Dutch victims work in home prostitution. Also in the east of Brabant the largest group by far are Dutch presumed victims.

Another large group are being reported in The Hague (Den Haag), which are from other European countries, most likely countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. In The Hague the largest group of presumed victims are found in window prostitution, which seem to indicate most of these reported presumed victims from European countries work in window prostitution. In the North of the Netherlands, as well as in Amsterdam the largest group are African presumed victims, in both of these regions the most reports come from home prostitution as well.
